The Britannia and the Six Bells pubs, below, were demolished to enable the building of the Hammersmith Flyover. Notice the Hammersmith Odeon (now the Apollo) was originally named The Gaumont.

Above, the completed Hammersmith Flyover. Chris Povey and myself walked the length of it around this time (early 1960s, we were about 7 years old)
The following two photos are the before and after flyover scenes..

The odeon in the middle of both photos stands out amongst the rest of the buildings. You can see the Six Bells pub 1 and the original Britannia 2. Both were demolished along with quite a few houses that happened to be in the way.

Above:
The original Britannia pub stood on the corner of Fulham Palace Road, Hammersmith end. It too, was demolished to enable to building of the flyover. It was rebuilt on the other side of the junction with the, compared to this beautiful building, sterile looking thing in the middle of the photo below. Even that one has gone now, as it was demolished to be replaced by the new looking broadway. It`s quite possible its rubble ended up in this subway as that has since been closed off and filled in.

Below:
A closer look at the replacement Britannia pub.

Below:
Hammersmith Bridge as it looks now. Below that is an image showing what the original bridge looked in 1828
